Microneedling in Orange, CA

Micro-needling, which is also referred to as collagen induction therapy (CIT) or micro-pen, is a revolutionary skin rejuvenating treatment. It reduces the appearance of scars, stretch marks, wrinkles, and even cellulite. Unlike with laser resurfacing, micro-pen treatments have minimal downtime with a very little chance of adverse side effects.

For skin micro-needling, we use an electric pen-shaped device made especially for this purpose. It is studded with 12 very fine needles which are used to create tiny holes in the skin, triggering the skin’s natural healing response which encourages skin cells to multiply.  This cell multiplication results in the formation of new tissue layers of elastin and collagen fibers as well as in new capillaries for improved blood flow.  The newly stimulated skin and blood results in firmer, tighter looking skin with diminished lines and wrinkles.

First, the skin is cleaned and numbing cream may be applied to lessen discomfort. A handheld pen-shaped device with a sterile, disposable tip containing 12 tiny needles is then used to pierce the skin. Our needling pen’s adjustable needle depth and multi-speed settings allow needles to pierce the skin’s layer at 90 degrees and increase the absorption of products. For better results, we use a collagen-stimulating product like hyaluronic acid or the patient’s own PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma). After the treatment, soothing Vitamin-C serum or hyaluronic acid is applied to hydrate, heal, and protect the skin in the treated area.  Micro-needling is suitable for all skin colors and types, even for those with sensitive skin.

Most people will experience redness and mild swelling comparable to a mild sunburn for 24-48 hours and there may be minimal pin-point bleeding and/or bruising. Within a week or two, you will notice that your skin is smoother and more radiant looking and the full effects will be seen a few weeks later.

Micro-needling does not require much downtime. The inflammatory reaction of the skin is extremely short and fades significantly within hours after treatment. The treated area may show slight redness for 12 to 48 hours. In order to reduce visible redness, we recommend hyaluronic acid after the procedure and to protect the skin with zinc-based sunblock.

Micro-needling can be safely repeated every 4-6 weeks until you achieve your desired results. For collagen induction, we recommend starting with 3 treatments with a minimum separation time of 4 to 6 weeks between treatments. For scar reduction, an average of 3 to 6 treatments is recommended. The number of visits required will depend on how each individual responds to the treatment. Micro-needling can be used on skin all over the body including neck, décolleté, arms, legs, etc. Most people will begin to see results after the very first appointment.

Since the tiny pricking channels close within one hour and the procedure is done under clinical conditions, post-op infections are extremely unlikely. There are virtually no negative side effects, and none have been reported in over 150,000 micro-needling procedures performed worldwide.
