What is Botox® Cosmetic?

Botox® is a prescription injectable medication that has been used to treat a variety of conditions for more than 17 years. In recent decades, cosmetic physicians have discovered its effectiveness in treating wrinkles and facial creases for a variety of patients. Botox® Cosmetic is FDA Approved to treat frown lines, crow’s feet and axillary hyperhidrosis, or excessive underarm sweating.

How does Botox® Cosmetic work?

Botox® Cosmetic works by blocking the signal from the nerves to the muscles. This way, the muscles can’t contract anymore which allows those wrinkles to relax and soften, giving the skin a smooth, youthful appearance.

During your visit, a small amount of Botox® will be injected directly into the targeted area. For the most part, you’ll only feel minor discomfort and we’ll only need a few minutes to administer the treatment. You should see results in three to seven days, but do note that in some cases it may take up to two weeks.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the treatment like?

Botox® Cosmetic is a quick and minimally invasive procedure consisting of a few small injections. Your nurse will determine exactly where to administer these injections to achieve the best results for you. No anesthesia is required, but the physician may choose to numb the area prior to administering the treatment. The entire procedure takes approximately 10 minutes with no downtime afterward. Some temporary side effects such as redness, swelling, or tenderness may occur. We recommend regular treatments every 4-6 months for optimal results.

Where can you use Botox?

  • Forehead
  • Neck
  • Chin
  • Around the mouth, nose, and eyes
  • Under the arms (to treat excessive sweating)

After receiving Botox®, patients may experience minor bruising, swelling, redness, inflammation, tenderness, or irritation at the site of the injection. These are temporary, however, and will subside within a couple days. More serious side effects can occur so please consult with one of our physicians prior to receiving this treatment.

As much as we’d like you to visit us, we can’t recommend Botox® for patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding, have a neurological disease, or who are allergic to albumin or any other part of the medication.

We care about your health and well-being, which is why it is essential for us to educate you about these precautions.
